    Hello, All!

I hope you are having a blessed Holy Week.

We have several services this weekend, and we certainly hope you will join us for all of them!

Multi-denominational Dinner & Worship  AT GRACE UMC TODAY

This evening at 6:00 pm, we will gather with folks from the First Christian, Grace United Methodist, First Presbyterian, and Verdigris United Methodist churches at Grace UMC for an Agape Dinner and interactive/sensory experience Maundy Thursday service. This will be an experience you won’t want to miss.

Good Friday Liturgy & Stations of the Cross

Friday evening at 6:00 pm, we will gather in the St. Paul’s nave to observe the Good Friday liturgy and participate in the Way of the Cross, a service commemorating some of the momentous events of Jesus’ journey to the cross. This is a deeply moving service through which we hope you will gain a deeper understanding of Christ’s love.

    The Great Easter Vigil

Saturday at 7:00 pm, we will observe the Easter Vigil. We will gather in the courtyard just outside the double red doors and give our Lenten offerings and sacrifices over to God in the form of a burnt offering. Then, the Christ candle will be lit, and we’ll process in for a special evening of worship. We anticipate joining with our multi-denominational friends for this event, and the entire community is invited to this special service wherein we celebrate the return of the Alleluia!, so bring a friend and join us.

    Easter Eucharist & Pot Luck

Sunday morning at 10:00, we will celebrate the High Holy Day of Easter. After the service, we will join together for our annual Easter Day pot luck luncheon. Even if you don’t bring any food, please plan to stay and eat as we always have plenty of food to share!

    Christian Formation

We will be taking a break from our Christian Formation classes during the rest of this month and throughout the month of May. In June and July, we will be participating in the Good Book Club’s “Summer with the Psalms.” There are two separate but complimentary tracks for this upcoming study, so be on the lookout for more information.

    Let Us Pray

    • That our parishioners will exemplify God’s love and peace during this time when so much religious, social, and political unrest plagues our community, nation, and world
    • For all individuals living in fear due to new executive orders and mandates being imposed

    Hello, Friends!

During this Lenten season, we have been pondering what offerings and sacrifices we can make to God, and seeking God’s face for guidance into “new things” (Isaiah 43:19).

This coming Sunday (4/13), Palm Sunday, we will walk the road of Jesus’ triumphal entry to Jerusalem, the path which lead to his final week before crucifixion. Our gospel lesson on this sacred occasion is an interactive one, so bring a friend and join us at 10:00 am as we observe Holy Eucharist.

Multi-denominational Lenten Dinner Worship AT VERDIGRIS UMC TODAY

Our weekly Lenten offerings to the community for this season have been in the form of Dinners and Worship on Thursday evenings at 6:00 pm. We have collaborated with the Claremore First Christian Church, Grace United Methodist Church, and Verdigris United Methodist Church. Last week, we were at Claremore FCC, where Pastor Elizabeth reminded us that, in Christ, we have more than enough. There are two dinners remaining – one tonight at Verdigris UMC; then next Thursday, we will gather at Grace UMC for an Agape Dinner and interactive Maundy Thursday service. Here is the schedule for the remaining dinners:

    April 10 – Verdigris UMC (8936 E 530 Rd, Claremore, OK 74019)

April 17 (Agape Dinner & Maundy Thursday Worship) – Grace UMC

    Lenten Book Club

This Sunday marks the final session of our Lenten book club meetings. During Lent this year, we have participated in a national-church-wide book club. We met on Sunday mornings at 9:00 am for coffee and conversation about the book The Ungrateful Refugee by Dina Nayeri. Our first discussion took place last Sunday, March 16, and draws to a close this Sunday.

During the rest of April and through the month of May, we will not have any formation classes.

    Volunteers Needed

If you have been discerning how you might be of more service to your church community, check with Rev. Nancy to find out some ways in which you might be able to help.

    Let Us Pray

    Hello, One and All!

For the past few weeks, we have been talking about seeking God’s face, based on the Psalmists words from the second Sunday in Lent, “You speak in my heart and say, ‘Seek my face.’ Your face, Lord, will I seek” (27:11), that same theme carried through the following week’s responsorial reading: “O God, you are my God; eagerly I seek you.” (63:1). Last Sunday (3/30), the fourth Sunday in Lent, we focused our thoughts on the results of seeking God and God’s promise, “I will instruct you and teach you in the way that you should go.” (Ps. 32:9) We heard from Christina McMahan as she shared with us some of the ways in which she has been following the Holy Spirit’s direction in her life.

This coming Sunday (4/06), the fifth Sunday in Lent, we will look with eager anticipation at the “new things” (Isaiah 43:19) God is able to do when we seek God’s face. Bring a friend and join us at 10:00 am as we observe Holy Eucharist.

    Greetings, Everyone!

I hope you have each had opportunity to get out and enjoy the exceptional weather we’ve had this week!

Last Sunday (3/09), the first Sunday in Lent, we joined the ancient Israelites in bringing our Lenten sacrifices  and offerings to God. When placing our offerings in the basket, we committed them with the prayer “You are my refuge and my stronghold, my God in whom I put my trust.” (Psalm 91:2)

The offering basket will remain at the base of the altar during the whole season of Lent. If you wish to add your own offering of thanks, or to add something you are releasing into God’s hand, feel free to write it on one of the slips of paper provided and leave it in the basket. These offerings will be lifted up to God when we light the Easter Vigil flame in April.

This coming Sunday (3/16), the second Sunday in Lent, we will join with Abram in seeking God’s promise, declaring with the Psalmist, “Your face, Lord, will I seek.” Bring a friend and join us at 10:00 am as we observe Holy Eucharist.

    Greetings, One and All!

I hope you are soaking up all this marvelous sunshine and enjoying the mild weather we’ve been having this week!

Last Sunday (2/23), the seventh Sunday after Epiphany, we joined Jesus as he exhorted us to love our enemies, and we discussed the radical ways this directive affects the way we live.

This coming Sunday (3/02), the last Sunday after Epiphany, we’ll join the apostles Peter, John, and James to witness the transfiguration, then follow along as their joint ministry to the crowds continues. Bring a friend and join us at 10:00 am as we discuss how these events impact our modern ministry.

    Shrove Tuesday Pancakes

Join us in the Parish Hall on Tuesday, March 4 @ 6pm for our annual Pancake supper. This is open to the public and is free (donations accepted), so invite a friend and come indulge your appetite on this last evening before the discipline of Lent begins!

    Ash Wednesday Service

We will kick off the season of Lent with the traditional Ash Wednesday Liturgy on Wednesday, March 5 @ 6pm. This is a great way to begin to lean into the penitential aspect of Lent.

    Lenten Book Club

During Lent this year, we will be participating in a national-church-wide book club. We will meet on Sunday mornings at 9:00 am for coffee (and food if you wish) and conversation about the book The Ungrateful Refugee by Dina Nayeri. Our first discussion will take place Sunday, March 16, and will continue through Palm Sunday (April 13). If you wish to read along and/or participate, please sign up on the bulletin board at church or reply to this email no later than Sunday, March 2, so we know how many books to order for everyone.

    Multi-denominational Lenten Dinner Worship

Our weekly Lenten offerings to the community for this coming season will be in the form of Dinners and Worship on Thursday evenings at 6:00 pm. We are collaborating with the Claremore First Christian Church, Grace United Methodist Church, and Verdigris United Methodist Church. The first Lenten Dinner Worship will take place on Thursday, March 13, at Grace UMC. The rest of the services will be held at different church campuses. Here is the schedule:

    Hello, Everyone!

I trust that you are all snuggled in where it’s warm and dry during this fresh spill of wintry weather.

Last Sunday (2/16), the sixth Sunday after Epiphany, the gospel lesson was the familiar sermon referred to as The Beatitudes, and we discussed the blessings of trusting in the Lord.

This coming Sunday (2/23), the seventh Sunday after Epiphany, we’ll join Jesus as he exhorts us to love our enemies. Bring a friend and join us at 10:00 am as we discuss this radical approach to love.

    Mt. Zion Chili Challenge

Weather permitting, this Saturday, February 22, from 11 am – 1 pm, our friends at Mt. Zion Baptist Church (805 N Oseuma Ave, Claremore) are holding a chili cook-off fund raiser. There is a $10 entry fee for those who wish to compete, and taste hits are $5 each. The 1st-Prize winner will receive a $50 gift card. To enter, contact Sandra, the church secretary, at 918-342-2799 or 918-639-9092 or mtzionclaremore.secretary@gmail.com no later than February 17.

    Inclement Weather

As we face this winter season, we want to be sure that you are receiving information about last-minute changes to our service schedule. As such, we have implemented an emergency notification system wherein parishioners can receive text messages about service cancellations, as well as various other information. If you have not already given us your updated contact information – especially your cell phone number – be sure to do so as soon as possible (we promise not to spam your inbox!). Current information may be given to Ron Parker, our IT, PR, and social media coordinator.

    Hello, All!

I hope this letter finds you safe and warm during this spell of wintry weather.

Last Sunday (2/09), the fifth Sunday after Epiphany, the gospel lesson took us to the beginning of Jesus’ ministry and the calling of fishermen Simon Peter, James, and John. We discussed how Jesus calls us to keep casting our nets.

This coming Sunday (2/16), the sixth Sunday after Epiphany, we will learn more about the blessings of trusting in the Lord. Bring a friend and join us at 10:00 am for Holy Eucharist as we discuss the beatitudes.
