    Greetings, Everyone!

Last weekend was fantastic! We are thrilled at the great crowds that came out for the first Claremore Pride festival. Follow that with the privilege of hosting seven guests at our Pride Mass, and you begin to understand why this vicar is so enthusiastic!

This Sunday, June 29, promises to be another exciting service as we, once again, join forces with Mt. Zion Baptist Church for another progressive service. Coffee and donuts will be served at 9:00 in the St. Paul’s narthex, then the first part of our service begins at 9:30. We will worship Episcopal style and hear a message from Pastor James Coulter, then we will travel (or ‘progress’) to the Mt. Zion church campus for the second half of the service where we will worship Mt. Zion style and hear a message from Rev. Nancy. This you will not want to miss, so bring a friend and join us at 9:00am! (***NOTE the early start time for this special service***)

Christian Formation: Summer Yoga with the Psalms

This week’s meditative prompt (June 19): Psalm 62

As a reminder, these classes are FREE and open to the entire community, so spread the word and invite everyone you can! No yoga mat? No problem! The instructors bring extras.

  • St. Paul’s Newsletter – 12 June 2025

    Greetings, Everyone!

Last Sunday, June 8, we will celebrated Pentecost on our beautiful (if still somewhat soft) front lawn. Our local woodland creatures were in attendance serving as the “Amen” section of our congregation. It was wonderful to observe Holy Eucharist in God’s Church built by God! After the service, we’ll all took a road trip to Art & Linda Paul’s house in Grove for a BBQ by Grand Lake. Linda did not exaggerate in the least when she told us that Art makes ribs that melt in your mouth – the chef certainly delivered! Many thanks to our friends for hosting us in their beautiful home with the gorgeous view!

This Sunday, June 15, we will have the privilege of hearing Deacon Linda preach as she explains the important connection between Easter, Pentecost, and Trinity Sunday. This, you will not want to miss; so, bring a friend and join us at 10:00am for Holy Eucharist.

Christian Formation: Summer Yoga with the Psalms

This week’s discussion prompt (June 12): What has been your favorite Psalm we’ve read so far in your reading track for this series? What has made you curious or disturbed you?

In conjunction with this study, we are hosting yoga classes in St. Paul’s Parish Hall at 7:00pm on Thursday evenings throughout June and July. We have two instructors (Selena and Danie) who will take turns guiding us through beginner-friendly yoga routines while helping us to focus on parts of our weekly Psalms. Don’t have a yoga mat? No problem; the instructors have extras.

Last week’s class was truly refreshing. Several folks from around the community joined us, and everyone left at the end of the class with a smile on their faces. These classes areFREE and open to the entire community, so spread the word and invite everyone you can!

    Hello, Friends!

Many thanks to those who participated in the clean-up party last Friday evening. Ecclesiastes 4:9 says, “Two are better than one, because they have a good return for their labor.” We had several more than “two,” and together, we were able to get the church yard cleared of debris from the wind storm that hit Claremore on Memorial weekend. Well done, team!

Last Sunday, June 1, we joined the congregation from 1st Presbyterian Church for Eucharist and a cookout at Claremore Lake. The weather was perfect and it was a wonderful time of fellowship with our siblings in Christ. Later that evening, some of us gathered in the Parish Hall for a watch party! On screen was a livestreamed service with Presiding Bishop Sean Rowe in the Episcopal Church Center chapel, during which he blessed all upcoming Episcopal Pride events and participants.

This Sunday, June 8, we will celebrate Holy Eucharist at 10am at St. Paul’s (on the front lawn if the weather permits). After the service, we’ll all load up for a road trip to Art & Linda Paul’s house in Grove for a BBQ by Grand Lake. Art will be grilling up some marvelous ribs for us, Linda will provide chicken and beverages, and the rest of us will bring side items and/or desserts. What a fantastic opportunity to relax and enjoy each other’s company, so don something red to celebrate Pentecost and join us for food and fun!

    Ron Parker Now Official Aspirant

For those of you who haven’t heard, St. Paul’s now has its very own Aspirant! Ron Parker has officially been accepted into the diocesan Aspirancy program. Simply stated, an Aspirant is one who aspires to become ordained. The program lasts approximately eight months, during which time, Ron will focus on discerning his call. This discernment takes place on an individual basis, in community with a committee which will be formed from our St. Paul’s congregation, and through monthly classes at the cathedral in OKC with other Aspirants from across the diocese. At the end of the program, all Aspirants who still feel that they are called to be ordained undergo a series of interviews which will determine whether they are to be accepted as Postulants (priests- or deacons-in-training) in a seminary or in a local formation program (Iona). This is a big and exciting opportunity – congratulations, Ron!

Christian Formation: Summer Yoga with the Psalms

In June and July, we will be participating in the Good Book Club’s “Summer with the Psalms.” There are two separate but complimentary tracks for this study. Here is the link to the reading schedules: https://www.goodbookclub.org/readings/

This week’s discussion prompt (June 5): We will read Psalm 11 together aloud. As you listen to the words of the Psalm – What feelings arise in your body? What do you notice about the experience of hearing the words of the Psalm? What effect do you feel in your physical being?

Readings for Week 2 (beginning June 8)

    • Track 1 – Psalms 18, 22, 24, 27, 31, 34, 35
    • Track 2 – Psalms 18-36

Here is a five-minute video which offers a overview of the entire book of Psalms: https://youtu.be/dpny22k_7uk?si=gmzhLgwDEtcKAF2v

In conjunction with this study, we will be hosting yoga classes in St. Paul’s Parish Hall at 7:00pm on Thursday evenings (beginning June 5). We have two instructors (Selena and Danie) who will take turns guiding us through beginner-friendly yoga routines while helping us to focus on parts of our weekly Psalms. Don’t have a yoga mat? No problem; the instructors have extras. These classes will be FREE and open to the entire community, so spread the word and invite everyone you can!

Sponsor a class: The instructors do receive $30 per class, so the members of our St. Paul’s congregation are invited to sponsor one or more classes. If you wish to sponsor a class, you may place $30 in the offering plate or give it to our treasurer, Kaitlyn. Be sure to indicate that the money is for Summer Yoga with the Psalms.

Donate to charity: In addition, these classes will be an opportunity for charitable giving. At each class, a basket/jar/collection plate will be provided wherein we will collect voluntary donations. At the end of July, all donations collected will be given to Meals on Wheels.

    Grace UMC Mobile Food Pantry

The date of the next visit by the Grace UMC food truck has been set for Wednesday, June 11, from 3-6 pm. They will arrive around 2pm to set up, and if there are still several people arriving at 6:00, we may extend the hours a bit. There is always plenty to do if you are available to help out during any of the allotted time. They can use help setting up at 2:00, help assisting people with paperwork and with shopping for and loading groceries, help keeping the workers fed and hydrated, and help breaking down at the end of the event; so, if you are available for any or all of this time, come along. It is always fun!

United Women In Faith Garden Party

Saturday, June 14, at 10am, we have been invited to attend a garden party at Grace UMC. Ladies come and celebrate the new garden at Grace UMC with salads and conversation. Bring a friend and a salad to share. Contact Donna Grabow at 918 341-8347 with questions or RSVP.

    PRIDE in the Park

Saturday, June 21, from 3-9pm, St. Paul’s will host a booth at the Claremore Pride Festival to be held at the park on Claremore Lake. Come one, come all, to celebrate love and community and the fact that ALL people are created in God’s image!

    PRIDE Mass

Speaking of celebrations…. In honor of PRIDE month, and to round out the Saturday festivities, our service on Sunday, June 22, will be a PRIDE Mass. It will be a customary Episcopal Eucharistic service; but the lessons and prayers are specifically suited to supporting the LGBTQIA2+ community. As such, feel free to wear your shirts, buttons, and pins that show your love for all God’s people to church that day. After the service, we will – of course! – feed all who are in attendance!

    T-shirts, Get Your St. Paul’s T-shirts!

We are placing an order for new St. Paul’s t-shirts. Shirts are a pale blue and have the Episcopal shield, church name and location, and our motto: “Here you will be loved.” If you want one, the cost is $17.25 (more for 2x & 3x) per shirt. Let us know what size you need and have your money turned in no later than June 8. (Note: shirts are 100% cotton, so some shrinking will occur upon first wash.) Shirts will be in on time to wear them to the Pride festival and/or Pride Mass!

Meals on Wheels Needs Volunteer Drivers

For those of you who may not be aware, the metal building on the east side of our church parking lot is rented from us (at a very reasonable rate!) by Meals on Wheels. We have a history of supporting this organization; but lately it has fallen a bit by the wayside. However, in addition to the donations we will be collecting for them over the next couple of months, it has come to our attention that they are in need of volunteer drivers.

The job is simple and does not require a lot of time. They deliver meals on Monday, Wednesday, and Friday mornings. Drivers meet at the building to collect the groceries at about 9:45am, and are finished making deliveries by around 11:00am. If you, or anyone you know, is available on any of these days to volunteer in this capacity, please let Rev. Nancy know. If there are enough of us available and willing, perhaps we can form delivery teams – what fun!

    Let Us Pray

    • That our parishioners will exemplify God’s love and peace during this time when so much religious, social, and political unrest plagues our community, nation, and world
    • For all individuals living in fear due to new executive orders and mandates being imposed

    Happy Ascension Day, Everyone!

In the words of Scott Gunn, Executive Director of Forward Movement:

On this day, we celebrate the ascension of Jesus as he returned to his Father in heaven 40 days after Easter Day.

Celebrating the ascension of Jesus is less about the mechanics of his return than it is about the fact that Jesus is reigning with his Father—no longer confined by time and space. Jesus is, as Ephesians says, all in all. He is for all people for all time in all places.

We now have a Lord who loves us wherever we are, who abides in the church, and who is our advocate in heaven.

The heart of the Christian faith is a theological concept called the Paschal Mystery—the suffering, death, resurrection, and ascension of Jesus Christ. By these acts, Jesus made possible our salvation, and not only our salvation but the salvation of the whole world. We just need to turn to him and accept this gift by believing.

His victory changes everything. Earthly tyrants no longer have dominion over us, nor does death itself. Instead, we live in a world that is defined by eternal grace and mercy.

That’s worth celebrating – the triumph of Jesus Christ over sin, evil, and death. “Clap your hands, all you peoples; shout to God with a cry of joy.” (https://mailchi.mp/forwardmovement.org/forward-today-jesus-christ-fills-all-in-all?e=40feff38d8)

    ________________

Last Sunday (5/25), The 6th Sunday of Easter, our Gospel lesson offered a foreshadowing of Pentecost. Jesus shares the good news that, when he is gone, the Holy Spirit will be sent to the disciples to remind them of all the things Jesus taught them while he was on the earth. Not only was this good news for the early disciples; but it extends to us today!

    Church on the Lake

This Sunday, June 1, we will be joining the congregation from 1st Presbyterian Church for Eucharist and a cookout at Pavillion 1 on Claremore Lake. The service will begin at 10:00am, followed by the cookout. The Presbyterian congregation will provide burgers and hot dogs, buns, condiments, ice, tea & water, plates, napkins & utensils. We have been asked to bring side items or desserts as well as our own chairs. Bring a friend and join us for church on the lake!

    Watch Party

Later that same day….You’re invited to join us in the Parish Hall on Sunday evening, June 1, at 5:00pm, for a watch party! We will be watching a livestream service with Presiding Bishop Sean Rowe in the Episcopal Church Center chapel, during which he will bless all upcoming Episcopal Pride events and participants. We thought it would be nice to watch it together as a congregation! Popcorn, candy, and other snacks will be provided, so plan on joining us for some fun.

Sunday, June 8, we will celebrate Holy Eucharist at 10am at St.

    PRIDE in the Park

Saturday, June 21, from 3-9pm, St. Paul’s will host a booth at the Claremore Pride Festival to be held at the park on Claremore Lake. Come one, come all, to celebrate love and community and the fact that ALLpeople are created in God’s image!

    PRIDE Mass

Speaking of celebrations…. In honor of PRIDE month, and to round out the Saturday festivities, our service on Sunday, June 22, will be a PRIDE Mass. It will be a customary Episcopal Eucharistic service; but the lessons and prayers a specifically suited to supporting the LGBTQIA2+ community.

    • For the safety of all individuals involved with the Claremore Pride in the Park event

    Hello, One and All!

Last Sunday (5/18), the 5th Sunday of Easter, we saw how God “make[s] all things new” (Rev. 21:5) through the efforts of those who follow Jesus’ command to “love one another.” (John 13:34)

This Sunday (5/25), The 6th Sunday of Easter, our Gospel lesson offers a foreshadowing of Pentecost. Jesus shares the good news that, when he is gone, the Holy Spirit will be sent to the disciples to remind them of all the things Jesus taught them while he was on the earth. Join us at 10:00am as we celebrate Holy Eucharist and learn more about how this is also good news for us!

School’s out for Summer, and I am thrilled to share with you the many exciting opportunities God has prepared for us during June and July; so, read on to find out how you can get involved!

    Church on the Lake

Sunday, June 1, we will be joining the congregation from 1st Presbyterian Church for Eucharist and a cookout at Pavillion 1 on Claremore Lake.

    Watch Party

You’re invited to join us in the Parish Hall on Sunday evening, June 1, at 5:00pm, for a watch party! We will be watching a livestream service with Presiding Bishop Sean Rowe in the Episcopal Church Center chapel, during which he will bless all upcoming Episcopal Pride events and participants. We thought it would be nice to watch it together as a congregation! Popcorn and candy will be provided, so plan on joining us for some fun.

Christian Formation: Summer Yoga with the Psalms

In June and July, we will be participating in the Good Book Club’s “Summer with the Psalms.” There are two separate but complimentary tracks for this study. Here is the link to the reading schedules: https://www.goodbookclub.org/readings/

In conjunction with this study, we will be hosting yoga classes in St. Paul’s Parish Hall at 7:00pm on Thursday evenings (beginning June 5). We have two instructors who will guide us through beginner-friendly yoga routines while helping us to focus on parts of our weekly Psalms. These classes will be free and open to the entire community, so spread the word and invite everyone you can!

The instructors do receive $30 per class, so the members of our St. Paul’s congregation are invited to sponsor one or more classes. If you wish to sponsor a class, you may place $30 in the offering plate or give it to our treasurer, Kaitlyn. Be sure to indicate that the money is for Summer Yoga with the Psalms.

In addition, these classes will be an opportunity for charitable giving. At each class, a basket will be provided wherein we will collect voluntary donations. At the end of July, all donations collected will be given to Meals on Wheels.

    Hello, One and All!

It’s hard to believe that we are halfway through the month of May. Graduations are under way, and our very own Ron Parker will be walking the stage at the Bishop Kemper Cathedral this Saturday. Congratulations, friend; we’re all proud of you and look forward to learning more from you about being effective evangelists!

Last Sunday (5/11), the 4th Sunday of Easter, we learned about the confidence and security that comes with accepting the call of Christ on our lives. We were challenged to make the collect of the day a daily prayer and to prepare our hearts and minds for what else God may ask us to do. As a reminder, here is that prayer: O God, whose Son Jesus is the good shepherd of your people: Grant that when we hear his voice we may know him who calls us each by name, and follow where he leads; who, with you and the Holy Spirit, lives and reigns, one God, for ever and ever. Amen.

This Sunday (5/18), The 5th Sunday of Easter, we’ll see how God “make[s] all things new” (Rev. 21:5) through the efforts of those who follow Jesus’ command to “love one another.” (John 13:34) Join us at 10:00 am as we celebrate Holy Eucharist.

    Greetings, Everyone!

I pray the “merry month of May” is treating you well thus far.

Last Sunday (5/04), the 3rd Sunday of Easter, we joined Jesus and his disciples for a breakfast of freshly-caught fish and bread cooked over an open flame on the beach. There, Jesus gave Simon Peter the directive, “feed my sheep.” This served as Peter’s calling to become the head of the newly forming Christian Church. Later, Jesus said, “follow me.” This same call (though worded differently) was also heard by Saul (a.k.a. Paul) on the road to Damascus, whereafter he said yes to becoming the first missionary to carry the gospel of Christ to the Gentiles (non-Jewish believers). We also read some of the words recorded by John while he was exiled on the island of Patmos where he said yes to the call to follow Christ by committing to paper his marvelous visions of the throne room of God. Like each of us today, these early believers received a calling to follow Christ. Each call was as unique as the individuals themselves, and each call was carried out in distinctive ways. Though following Christ is not always easy, it is always rewarding. May we each have the grace and courage to say yes to our own callings.

This Sunday (5/11), the 4th Sunday of Easter, we’ll read about the confidence and security that comes with accepting that call. Join us at 10:00 am as we celebrate Holy Eucharist.

This evening at 6:00 pm, we will gather with folks from the First Christian, Grace United Methodist, First Presbyterian, and Verdigris United Methodist churches at Grace UMC for an Agape Dinner and interactive/sensory experience Maundy Thursday service. This will be an experience you won’t want to miss.

Good Friday Liturgy & Stations of the Cross

Friday evening at 6:00 pm, we will gather in the St. Paul’s nave to observe the Good Friday liturgy and participate in the Way of the Cross, a service commemorating some of the momentous events of Jesus’ journey to the cross. This is a deeply moving service through which we hope you will gain a deeper understanding of Christ’s love.

    The Great Easter Vigil

Saturday at 7:00 pm, we will observe the Easter Vigil. We will gather in the courtyard just outside the double red doors and give our Lenten offerings and sacrifices over to God in the form of a burnt offering. Then, the Christ candle will be lit, and we’ll process in for a special evening of worship. We anticipate joining with our multi-denominational friends for this event, and the entire community is invited to this special service wherein we celebrate the return of the Alleluia!, so bring a friend and join us.

    Easter Eucharist & Pot Luck

Sunday morning at 10:00, we will celebrate the High Holy Day of Easter. After the service, we will join together for our annual Easter Day pot luck luncheon. Even if you don’t bring any food, please plan to stay and eat as we always have plenty of food to share!

    Hello, Friends!

During this Lenten season, we have been pondering what offerings and sacrifices we can make to God, and seeking God’s face for guidance into “new things” (Isaiah 43:19).

This coming Sunday (4/13), Palm Sunday, we will walk the road of Jesus’ triumphal entry to Jerusalem, the path which lead to his final week before crucifixion. Our gospel lesson on this sacred occasion is an interactive one, so bring a friend and join us at 10:00 am as we observe Holy Eucharist.

Multi-denominational Lenten Dinner Worship AT VERDIGRIS UMC TODAY

Our weekly Lenten offerings to the community for this season have been in the form of Dinners and Worship on Thursday evenings at 6:00 pm. We have collaborated with the Claremore First Christian Church, Grace United Methodist Church, and Verdigris United Methodist Church. Last week, we were at Claremore FCC, where Pastor Elizabeth reminded us that, in Christ, we have more than enough. There are two dinners remaining – one tonight at Verdigris UMC; then next Thursday, we will gather at Grace UMC for an Agape Dinner and interactive Maundy Thursday service. Here is the schedule for the remaining dinners:

    April 10 – Verdigris UMC (8936 E 530 Rd, Claremore, OK 74019)

April 17 (Agape Dinner & Maundy Thursday Worship) – Grace UMC

    Lenten Book Club

This Sunday marks the final session of our Lenten book club meetings. During Lent this year, we have participated in a national-church-wide book club. We met on Sunday mornings at 9:00 am for coffee and conversation about the book The Ungrateful Refugee by Dina Nayeri. Our first discussion took place last Sunday, March 16, and draws to a close this Sunday.

During the rest of April and through the month of May, we will not have any formation classes.

    Volunteers Needed

If you have been discerning how you might be of more service to your church community, check with Rev. Nancy to find out some ways in which you might be able to help.
