Greetings, Friends; and Happy Father’s Day (almost)!
Did you know…?
- On July 5, 1908, a West Virginia church sponsored the nation’s first event explicitly in honor of fathers, a Sunday sermon in memory of the 362 men who had died in the previous December’s explosions at the Fairmont Coal Company mines in Monongah, but it was a one-time commemoration and not an annual holiday.
- The nation’s first Father’s Day was celebrated on June 19, 1910, in the state of Washington. However, it was not until 1972 that the day honoring fathers became a nationwide holiday in the United States.
- In the U.S., we celebrate Father’s Day on the third Sunday of June; but in other countries–especially in Europe and Latin America–fathers are honored on St. Joseph’s Day, a traditional Catholic holiday that falls on March 19.

I am the Lord; I have spoken, and I will do it
Last week (6/09), we heard about some of the struggles Jesus faced in his life of ministry, and we talked about who may obtain membership in the family of Christ (hint: “Whoever” – that includes you and me).
Please join us for worship this Sunday (6/16) at 9:30 a.m., when we will discuss some of the ways in which everything is topsy-turvy in the Kin-dom of God.
Christian Formation
***Note: We will NOT have Sunday School this month.***
Later this summer, our focus in Christian formation will be on Spiritual Gifts. We’ll find out what they are, how you can discover which of these gifts you have, and how you can put them to practical use. Stay tuned for more information about this exciting curriculum.
Visits with the Vicar
The “Visits with the Vicar” sign-up sheet has now been posted on the church bulletin board. If you are unable get to the church, feel free to contact me via email to set up a visit. I will gladly come to you at a location of your choosing – whether at a restaurant (my treat) or in your home. This is not a formal affair; we’ll keep it simple (i.e. coffee, tea, or my drink of choice: water). My goal is to visit with everyone by the end of the summer season!
Vicar Plans Vacation
Sunday, July 7, the vicar will be on vacation; but we will still have worship at 9:30 a.m. by observing the Daily Office of Morning Prayer. Tom, Ron, Shelby, and Kaitlyn will lead this service; so, don’t miss the opportunity to participate in one of our oldest and most beloved traditions.
